Lauterbourg, located today on the border with Germany, has undergone several periods of destruction and reconstruction. In the 18th century the town was fortified by the military engineer De Charmont in line with the principles of Vauban and a number of perfectly restored historical monuments remain to this day. Just a few kilometres away, visitors can discover the remains of the Maginot line and several abandoned pillboxes. Just a few hundred metres away, the banks of the Rhine provide an ideal setting for hikers and cyclists. In Spring and Summer, the lake at Lauterbourg offers the possibility of supervised bathing and a range of sports and water sports.
